Collection: Hand Block Printed Fabrics
Hand block printing using wooden blocks is an art form that has been practised for centuries in Jaipur, my hometown.
Every colour and motif on the fabric is applied by hand using intricately carved wooden blocks. Each colour in a design requires its own block, so a five-colour pattern would involve five separate blocks being carefully aligned and printed in repeat across the fabric.
At Saneymi, we print exclusively on natural fibres such as cotton, silk-cotton and fine wool. The dyes used are permanent and vary depending on the printing technique, ranging from pigments and Napthol dyes to acrylic-based colours.
Many of our textiles are also created using natural dyes derived from plants and minerals. These include madder root, syahi (a traditional natural black), turmeric, pomegranate rind and cassia flowers, to name just a few. For our indigo-dyed fabrics, we employ a traditional mud-resist technique, where a mud paste is applied with wooden blocks before the cloth is immersed in a natural indigo vat.
Each piece reflects the skill of the artisan, the beauty of natural materials and the rich textile heritage of Rajasthan.
